About Podcasting

Many people are beginning to see the unlimited potential of podcasting, both as a hobby and a prospective career. Many people enjoy podcasting simply because it is something fun and interesting to do, while others may find podcasting as a way of expressing their inner creativity. With podcasts people are no longer confined to the text that they can type. Podcasting has allowed publishers to use not only their voices, but also their faces, to help spread their message. Instead of endlessly writing about their facts and opinions, people can communicate them through speech. This gives those sending the messages, the power to share not only their knowledge, but also share their enthusiasm and their excitement.

The way in which podcasts are delivered has only helped fuel their popularity. RSS feeds have become the preferred format of sharing and receiving news and media. Internet users are now able to customize which kinds of news and media they would like to receive. In the same respect, podcasters now have the ability to reach a specific and targeted audience. The ability to carefully target a specific audience creates a stronger relationship between podcasters and their listeners, which ultimately leads to more long-standing relationship. This longer standing relationship between the podcaster and their listeners, and the targeted nature of the audience increase the potential value of the podcast itself.

The potential of making money through podcasting is also beginning to become more evident. Not only can one promote products and services through their podcast, but also the reality and probability of selling advertising space during a podcast is becoming more of a reality. As the possibility of profits continues to increase for podcasters so too should the kinds of advertising that will be available. Already there are several emerging services that host podcasts for free, with the promise for insertion of advertising in trade for the free hosting.

Although podcasting is no longer in its initial stages of development, there is still a seemingly unlimited amount of room for its growth. Podcasting is quickly setting itself up as the next major broadcasting medium. The people who first find the best ways to exploit this new medium will be the people who profit the most.
